You can also add the Bulgarian alphabet on a Mac:

    1. Click on the Apple in the upper left corner of your desktop.
    2. Choose ‘System Preferences.’
    3. Click on ‘Language & Text.’
    4. First, add Bulgarian under the ‘Languages’ tab.
    5. Click on the ‘Input Sources’ tab, and select Bulgarian. Be sure the box that says ‘Show Input menu in menu bar’ is checked.
    6. When you restart, you will see the keyboard language selector in the upper right corner of your menu bar. You can now switch between your default language, and Bulgarian.

@Natasha & M: you need to add the Bulgarian Phonetic keyboard layout ;) The original BG layout corresponds to the old Bulgarian typewriter machines. The Phonetic one corresponds (as much as possible) to the phonetic values of the english keyboard.

Not sure how it goes on Windows XP but all in all in the window described in point 4 (after clicking Details) you should be able to add more than one layout for every input language. Just look for Bulgarian Phonetic.

    On Windows 7:

Control Panel => Region and Language => Keyboards and Languages tab => Change Keyboards => Add… => then find Bulgarian (Phonetic Traditional) in the list under Bulgarian. You can check as many layouts as you want. If you prefer Bulgarian (Phonetic), also included in Windows Vista, try that, too. They have some differences.

Note, if you add more than one layout for a language, a small keyboard-shaped icon appears next to the language abbreviation on the taskbar when you switch to this language. You can then use the mouse to click on this icon and choose your preferred layout.

This can also be set as keyboard shortcuts by clicking Advanced Key Settings tab => Change Key Sequences, in the last window (after clicking Change Keyboards)

@ Mac users – also have a Bulgarian (Phonetic) alphabet, accessible in the way described above by Shawn

    Hope this helps

It usually helps to use Flextype in order to have Bulgarian phonetic layout, but I don’t have the right to download it on the computer I use at work.

It’s XP, so what can I do?
